Dive Into Ocean Week Toronto: May 31 – June 8, 2026
TORONTO, ONTARIO — MAY 27, 2026
Ocean Week Toronto (OWT) is a region-wide celebration of our connections to the ocean and water taking place from May 31 to June 8, 2026 (with June 8 being World Ocean Day). As a regional hub of Ocean Week Canada, OWT brings together organizations, educators, libraries, and community groups across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) for a series of fun and interactive ocean and water activities across the region.
Although Toronto is located inland, its waterways connect directly to the ocean through the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River. OWT highlights this vital connection, creating accessible opportunities for residents to learn about, engage with, and take action for freshwater and ocean health in their own neighborhoods.
This year’s program features a diverse lineup of public events, including:
- Women4Climate Community Connection (Toronto) — June 3, 2026: A gathering for female entrepreneurs working on climate or ocean solutions to connect, share, and uplift each other.
- Toronto Climate Week Nature & Water Flagship Event (Toronto) — June 5, 2026: A collaborative event bridging Climate Week and Ocean Week to promote nature-based solutions and ocean resilience for a regenerative future.
- Ocean and Water Education Fair (Milton) — June 6, 2026: A family-friendly event bringing together local organizations, educators, and community groups to share ocean- and water-focused hands-on activities and interactive programming.
- Community Water Testing (North York) — June 7, 2026: A citizen science initiative where participants can engage in local water monitoring and learn about water quality parameters.
- Illumination in Blue (Across the GTHA) — June 8, 2026: A visual moment to mark World Ocean Day, with select locations across the GTHA participating in blue lighting to raise awareness for ocean and freshwater conservation.
- Library Programs Across the GTHA — Throughout the summer: In partnership with local libraries, Ocean Week Toronto supports a range of ocean-themed programming. Activities include ocean-themed books, storytimes, crafts, and interactive projects.
In addition to these highlighted programs, OWT offers diverse activities designed to engage audiences of all ages and backgrounds. These initiatives reflect a growing movement to connect inland communities to marine issues and encourage local action.
“Ocean Week Toronto creates space for people to connect their everyday lives to the global ocean,” said Lisa Chen, Executive Director of Oceanic Impact. “Through partnerships with libraries and community groups, we’re celebrating the ocean relevant right here in the GTHA.”
Residents are encouraged to participate in events throughout the week to discover how local watersheds are linked directly to the marine world. In a dense urban region like the GTHA, this connection shows how even inland communities are directly linked to the health of the global ocean.
